About İstanbul Ex-libris Museum

The first Ex-libris Museum in Turkey was opened in Istanbul in 2008 by Prof. Dr. It was established within the IMOGA Graphic Arts Museum under the patronage of Süleyman Saim Tekcan. The ex-libris collection, which was later removed from IMOGA, was presented to Işık University Faculty of Fine Arts faculty member Prof. Dr. It has been preserved for a long time in Hasip Pektaş's office. The museum was opened in 2014 by the valuable Rectors of Işık University, Prof. Dr. Nafiye Güneç Kıyak and Prof. Dr. It was created for the second time at Işık University with the interest and support of Şirin Tekinay. This valuable collection of the Istanbul Ex-libris Association was exhibited at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Maslak. Preparations were also made to obtain the approval of the Ministry of Culture, but the rectors left their posts before they could gain the official museum identity. The subsequent administration did not show interest and Prof. who is also the President of Istanbul Ex-libris Association. Dr. After Hasip Pektaş left the university, the collection was removed from the university in 2017 with the decision of the board of directors of the association.
Istanbul Ex-libris Museum, art-loving businessman and Selçuk Ecza Holding A.Ş. It was established for the third time and permanently under the auspices of M. Sonay Gürgen, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and within the body of Selçuk Ecza Holding. Istanbul Ex-libris Museum, T.C. With the approval of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism dated 15.09.2020 and numbered 60960384-151.01.01-E.680776, it gained the status of Special "Ex-libris Museum".
In addition to its extensive services in the pharmaceutical industry, Selçuk Ecza Holding makes valuable contributions to education with the buildings it has built, and to culture with its cultural centers. Selçuk Ecza Holding, with this sense of social responsibility, made a significant contribution to the art of ex-libris in 2018 as well. Holding, under the leadership of Hasip Pektaş, it hosted the international ex-libris competition on “pharmacy, medicine and human health”.
In addition, TRNC Eastern Mediterranean University Communication Faculty Visual Arts and Visual Communication Design Department Head Prof. Dr. Senih Çavuşoğlu and Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Silesia Katowice, Poland. Dr. A copy of the ex-libris received in the Spirit International Ex-libris Competition held in 2019 in cooperation with Krzysztof Marek Bak and the International “Dervish” Yunus Emre Ex-libris Competition held in 2021 by the Konya Necmettin Erbakan University Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture were donated to our museum. In addition, in 2022, 1,170 ex-libris sent by 452 artists from 36 countries to the 5th International Ex-libris Competition organized jointly by İstinye University, Selçuk Pharmaceutical Warehouse and Istanbul Ex-libris Association, and 550 ex-libris donated extra to the museum enriched the collection of the museum.
Established as one of the 10 museums in the world, Istanbul Ex-libris Museum will surely live with the contributions of Selçuk Ecza Deposu and Istanbul Ex-libris Society; It will become a cultural center in the context of recognition, dissemination and development of exlibris in our country.
With this small ex-libris collection, 250 books, catalogs and 27 theses will be a source for those who do research on ex-libris.
The aims of the Istanbul Ex-libris Museum are;
1. Sharing the exlibris, registering for the future, creating and preserving our cultural heritage and making the exlibris accessible to art lovers easily,
2. To enlarge this collection by adding new ex-librises to this collection, which is valuable enough to attract the attention of visitors of all ages,
3. To enable students from all levels of educational institutions in Turkey to visit the museum and participate in workshops and become new representatives of this art,
4. To provide training opportunities for artists and designers to prepare for international ex-libris competitions,
5. To give seminars / conferences for those who want to learn, apply and evaluate exlibris and to organize workshops for those who are interested.
6. To create opportunities for cultural enrichment.
